Human Trafficking Awareness Month
Tens of thousands of people are trafficked into and around the U.S. each year. San Francisco is a hub for this criminal activity. Women, men, and children are trafficked for forced labor, domestic servitude, prostitution and more. To raise awareness, this is human trafficking awareness month here in San Francisco. Because Justice Matters is working as part of SFCAHT (San Francisco Collaborative Against Human Trafficking) along with many other agencies and non profits. Reaching India
An update from Rachael's Trip to India:
Nothing could have ever prepared me for what I experienced in India.
My time spent at P.A.C.T, a house for HIV positive women and children in Chennai impacted me the greatest. From the moment I arrived, I started to learn what real gratitude was . With western mentality, it is easy to have a great sense of entitlement, and our gratitude often depends on our circumstance. However, in India, this mentality was very hard to come by.
Most of these children had been orphaned due to their parent's death, and all three of the women there had been either left by their husbands or they had passed away. Injustice stared them in the face everyday, and yet they were constantly grateful for every good thing to come their way, and their gratitude wasn't shaken by their circumstances. The families dwelling on the streets and in the slums who work all day for 1 meal; the women and children who are HIV + and confused; the mentally and physically disabled who are shunned from society…these are all people who have a legitimate reason to be sad, angry, upset, ungrateful…and yet, these people have taught me what true thankfulness is. They have taught me what real joy is. They have shown me what it is to rise out of circumstance. I am forever grateful and privileged to have spent even the shortest amount of time with
the people I met there.
P.A.C.T is doing a fantastic job amidst difficult circumstances. If you would like to take a moment and make a difference in the lives of these women in India consider giving to P.A.C.T (Project Aids Through Prayer and Training) , visit their website @ http://www.pactywam.org/youcanhelp.htm
